buying a house

We are currently not married and

plan to buy a house together (in

Florida) is it better to be married

before we attempt to purchase or

does it matter? What marital

Re: buying a house

As to actually buying the home, it makes little difference. With respect to owning the home, whether as a primary home or second home, I suggest you have an agreement between yourselves in writing, just in case you do not get married and decide to split. The agreement should indicate who pays for what, what happens if you do not get married and one wants to sell the property and the other does not.

Good Luck

If you do not plan to wed in the near future, put together a legally valid writing about the rights, responsibilities, and the ownership relationship.

Failure to do so will and could create enormous problems.
