Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

I'm closing on a house in Florida next week. My Realtor told me that I have to pay $140 to have the locks changed on the property before they give me the keys. Is that true? I prefer to change the locks myself and save $100. Is that really the law, or, can I tell them I will do it myself?

There is no law I have ever heard of, though if the property is in an association that requires it, that would be another matter. Never heard of an association requiring it either, but I cannot assume it.

You should require the Realtor to provide you a copy of the law requiring it.

Honestly, though it is an excellent idea, I have never heard a mandatory change of locks. A cheaper alternative is not to change the locks, but have a locksmith change the tumbler.
