Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Court Judgement for back rents

I received a court summons eviction, I moved within the five days, the questions I have are:

1. What and how can they collect a judgement for back rent?

2. How are the twenty days counted?

3. The landloard did a lot of harrasing by phone, left messages on my voice mail stating he was coming to get the rent no matter what, kept my wife upset for several weeks.

4. In December the landloard was mailed a letter stating that the well pump would cut off and we wouldn't have water, when the pump did work the lights in the house would blink, I was concerned about fire, they wouldn't fix it. I didn't with hold rent,I was late paying it due to a business failing, which is no reason I understand that, but when I tried to work out something to catch the rent up, nothing was acceptable. So I moved my family, but now I am sure I will have a judgement for $4,000. I don't have much, two old cars paid off and some furniture. Will I lose what I have? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide me.

Re: Court Judgement for back rents

Reply to the complaint that was filed against you. Better, retain counsel to represent you. If you proceed by yourself, you then have to go court and file the appropriate responses to the complaint including any counterclaims you may have. If your apartment was rendered uninhabitable, you maybe successful. Good luck.
