My daughter's car was broken into while at a fitness center. Laptop stolen. What is the responsibility of the property owner?

Depending on certain factors, the property owner probably has very little if any lability for this issue. Unless it was one of their employees who stole it.

You may want to contact a local attorney, but keep in mind most attorneys will require a retainer and payment of their hourly fee to pursue this type of claim, because even if they win, the amount of the damages will likely be very low.

Also, as you are probably aware, the property within the car is not covered by your auto policy. However, it is typically covered under the contents portion of a homeowner's or renter's policy, subject to your deductible of course.
