Developer did not disclose water drainage would be in my yard
We have purchased a house with a very small yard and are due to close on it in 5 days. Prior to buying the house, the builder's sales agent assured us that the surface water at the edge of our property would be drained and gone by the time the subdivision was finished. This water coverd a 5 ft x 2 ft area and was 6 inches deep. This is a brand new subdivision and we will be the 1st family to move in. We did the walk-through 3 days ago and were told that ''the water, actually, will be permanent. Turns out it was designed this way as a concession to the city (of Gainesville).'' The water is just off the edge of our property (so not in our yard), but since our backyard is only 15' deep, it looks like it is in our yard. My foremost concern is that it has since quadrupled in size (once our sprinkler system was installed) and is now 18'' deep. My one yr old son could drown. I would not have bought this lot had I known this surface water was permanent. What can I do?

Read your contract. Oral statements are meaningless. I hope you had an attorney representing you.
