Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
I discovered a piece of red paper taped to my door. It says I have been named in a foreclosure lawsuit along with the owner of this property (I am merely a renter). Is this standard practice? The notice says I have 48 hours to call a number in order to "avoid any further cost," although the paper is not dated to begin with. What is my responsibility as a renter?

No, you need to be served with a summons from the court. That is not standard procedure, but you need to be informed because you are living there. Call your landlord for more information about whether there is a foreclosure lawsuit. If you are on a valid lease, you should be given 90 days notice to vacate. The foreclosure will likely take some time. Regards,
