Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
I have an employee who went to a 28-day rehabilitation program and his ex-wife wants to come pick up his valuable items. What can I do to make sure I am not liable if anything happens?

Be careful. Although a wife may have all the right intentions at heart, you could be exposed to liability unless she has a power of attorney. As a minimum, you should have something in writing signed by the employee directing you to deliver his belongings to his wife.
It is best that you pack up his personal belongings and store them onsite until he picks them up in 28 days, or you have the authority to give your employee's belongings to a 3rd party.
The wife should understand.
I hope this was helpful information for you.
Obtain a signed and notarized authorization from your employee.
