Forced sale of residence by 1/2 undivided interest

X and Y are dating. X and Y buy a residence as undivided 1/2 interests. X and Y split up. X attempts to either buy out Y or to allow Y to buy out X. If Y refuses either option, can X force a sale of the residence to get out from under it? What does X need to file to start the proceedings?
