Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Forged Signatures

We sold our home in August. It

was a ''short'' sale. The 2nd mortgage company has produced

a paper from the title company that

says we ''agreed'' that the lien would be removed, but not the debt.

Our signatures are forged with my

name being mis spelled.

Is this a crime? Should I call the police or have to pay an attorney.

The bad debt is now showing up

on our credit report due to this

forgery.

Thank you

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

Frankly, you should probably do both. Call the police and report the forgery. At the same time, hire an attorney to work with you on the civil side in an attempt to get the debt satisfied and all bad information removed from your credit history.
