New Home Purchase

My home will be fee simple in 3 years. I am contemplating building a log cabin in the Carolinas. My question is: Is this a good financial move? My present home will be paid in 3 yrs. and now I will start with another mtg. for 15 years. I am presently 50 yrs. old and my husband is 60yrs. I will only finance $50,000.00. Your input wiould be appreciated. Thank you
