Homeowner associations enforcing parking
Although the bylaws state that cars cannot park on the street overnight, the HOA just sent a letter requiring all residents to register their vehicles with the HOA and to obtain parking permits from the HOA (first two for free, the others for a fee) and that if you are planning on having overnight guests, you must obtain approval or contact the HOA before hand. How lawful is this? Do I need to get a permit now to park in my own driveway? I live in a single family unit neighborhood which is not gated. They even went to explain that if the residents or their guests parked on the street overnight their cars will be towed. There are no towing signs around and the street is not marked with yellow no parking marks.

If your HOA rules or by-laws permit it, it is lawful. If not, it isn't.
