Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

House closing date -- what if it's not met?

My mother is selling her house, but the sellers real estate agent continues to bump the closing date back a day or two at a time supposedly because of missing documents. How long can this go on and what are the legal obligations to actually fulfill the closing date?

The agent has no right to call the shots for closing. Contact the title company closing the sale and your own agent and insist on a specific date. They should know all the documents required once a title search has been accomplished.

An agent can not arbitrarily change the date of the closing. The closing date is part of the contract. Both the seller and buyer has to agree before the date can be changed.
