Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

My husband owns 1/3 of two different real estate properties one is an apartment his mother is living in in NY, the other is 1/3 of an acre of land in Ft. Meyers. His mother and brother also own these properties with him. We are in serious financial ruin...can he force them to sell or somehow get the money from the piece he owns?

In Florida, and presumably in NY, he can initiate a partition action and the judge will require the properties to be sold and the proceeds distributed appropriately. The threat of such an action may inspire them to work something out with him rather than have them sold.
