Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

My husband and I were given a summons in a foreclosure case. We are named with several other people. We don't know the owners of the house, it's just a house on our street. We are unsure why we received this summons. The plaintiff is a life insurance company and their lawyer refuses to give any assistance. What do we do if anything? I think they assume we have an interest in the property but we have none.

File a written response and file it with the Court and send to the Plaintiff's attorney. Your status should be referenced in the complaint. Have an attorney review it and explain what your involvement is pursuant to the complaint itself.

Read the complaint. See how you are referenced and what interest is at stake. IF you do not understand it, contact a local foreclosure attorney ( you will receive 10's of mailings). Ask what interest, if any you may have. You have an interest that shows up in a Foreclosure title search. That is why you were served.

Protect yourself. Talk to an attorney and find out. Knowledge is power; know your rights.

The complaint should indicate why they have made claim against you.
