Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Impossible Roommate

I have had a rommmate in the condo that I own since January 2009. I knew immediately it was not going to work. She started to complain the moment she walked in the door. She does not speak to me and when I try to start a conversation she will not engage. After two months of being ignored, disrespected and feeling uncomfortable in my own home I told its not working out and she needs to find another place to live. What do I have to do as the landlord in regards to returning any prorated rent? Time frame? The deposit is going to be an issue, she is the biggest slob I have ever me and she will not clean. I am not cleaning up after her, I will hire a maid at her expense.

Re: Impossible Roommate

Assuming you don't have a lease, and assuimng the rent is paid monthly, you have to give her 15 days written notice before the next day the rent is due. Then, if she doesn't mve out, you have to evict her.
