Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

On July 1 2012, my boyfriend and I moved to Florida. We stopped at my son (Adam 26) and his wife's (Jessica 32, I think) rented home as soon as we got here. Rather than go to hotel, they suggested we stay with them. It was me, b/f, dog, and 2 cats. BF is a computer consultant that had no pending jobs. While there son's financial problems were noticed...eviction, utilities shut off, etc. We all decided we would get a place together by end of summer. B/F got no jobs during this time and the money we brought with us was being used to get food, pay for gas, and so on. Serious argument arose between son, his wife (on the phone) and bf. BF was told to leave and I made decision to stay. Moving day came and only place to go was son's wife's father's house. I helped move and while moving tripped on a bed part and fell. I went to ER 2 weeks later because of constant severe pain in back. I was diagnosed with a lower back fracture and am still seeing doctor for this. Back to moving, I stayed with son and wife for one week in Orlando and then came to North Fort Myers. When I left, I was on very good terms with son. So, at his urging, I left a few personal items there along with my 2 cats. Since then, text message from him and his wife had gotten very nasty when I was trying to set up a day to go back and get my cats. In some texts they stated I owed them money, that I abandoned my cats, and called me names. He has since blocked my phone number and still want to get my cats. Even though I have to wear a back brace and am not supposed to be driving too much, I am driving to Orlando tomorrow and want to get my cats. Should I just call the police to go with me? My son can be very mean when he doesn't get what he wants.
