Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
Lease agreement
I recently mailed out a payment for rent on the sixth of the month. According to the rental agreement, I am supposed to pay the rent on before five days after the first of the month. I was charged a late payment fee. However, if I would have known a different way to pay the rent I would have paid it on that day. Is the landlord allowed to do this?

Re: Lease agreement
Under the lease, it is probably your responsibility to find out a better way to pay the rent, for example dropping it in their mailbox. Your landlord should be able to tell you the best way to get them the rent. Maybe you can agree with them not to charge a late fee if the letter is postmarked by the fifth or sixth the month.
