Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Lease Dropping

I signed a lease for and apartment, but 4 months before I am supposed to move in, I am unable to live there because i had to move back home. Now, I understand that a lease is a legal contract, but is there any possible way to get out of the lease without making a mess in court? There is no possible way that I will be able to pay for the apartment and support myslef at the same time.

Thank You

Re: Lease Dropping

You cannot just drop the lease however, the landlord has an obligation to mitigate his damages which means he must make reasonable efforts to rerent. Giving him 4 month notice should be enough time for him to rerent. Good luck.
