Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Lease on a home

My landlord emailed me to let me know that they are going for a short sale if their refi doesn't go through. They asked me for a bid on the house if I wanted it. Did they just break my 24 month lease. I've been in the house 8 mos.

Re: Lease on a home

not likely, but you should look at your written lease to see if there are provisions for the event of sale by the owner. If you like the home and are in a position to make an offer you may be able to get a really good deal on the short sale.

Additionally, the short sale process can take a while and the new owners will have to be made aware of the existing 24 month lease prior to sale. If they choose to terminate the lease then they will have to abide by the termination clause which is hopefully in your written lease.
