Is a lease a legal contract. Can it be changed without my knowledge?

A lease is a legal contract, assuming all formalities are met and it establishes a meeting of the minds on what is to be done. It cannot be changed except by its own terms. Usually this would require a written document amending or altering the document signed by both parties.
