Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Am I Liable

Mother in-law sold her home and turned over all proceeds to my wife (her daughter) in the following manner:

1. Signed a document during closing turning over monies to

my wife.

2. Mother in-law also signs a gift letter for our new

property

3. Mother in-law also states in her will that all proceeds

from sale of house to go to daughter.

Note: no other agreements were made; Mother in-law stated that she was giving us the monies; and we in turn would provide for her.

Mother in-law got angry and moved out, now wants money back. All money is invested in the home. Mother in-law is now suing under the ''constructive trust'' clause.

Are we liable to return monies.
