Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Lien on Property

My neighbour and I purchased property from the same person. When they wereready to build on it they were told of some liens on the propertywhich had to be satisfied before b/permits could be issued.

How Can I find out whether liens against my property exist. I have owned this land for seven years now and no one has ever notified me of any outstanding liens.

Is there a Statute Of Limitations regarding this?

Re: Lien on Property

Liens are either recorded in the public records or are unrecorded and arise out of, for example, the right of a municipality to impose a chrage on soem service and that charge remains unpaid. A property and name search by an attorney or a title company will identify the recorded liens; the others you have to search within the specific municipality or county. An attorney does this as a matter of course in the process of examining title to the real estate and subsequent issuance of a title insurance policy. Consult an attorney in the county where you reside and he/she will be able to help you.
