Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Name on Loan, but not deed

I recently got divorced and quit claimed the house to my ex-husband. Now I realize my name is still on the mortgage and the mortgage company has refused to release my name as my income is needed for him to keep the loan. What are my legal options as I wish to buy my own home, but will not qualify since my name is still on the other mortgage. I'm also worried that if something happens to him, I will be liable for this debt.

Re: Name on Loan, but not deed

Whether something happens to your ex-husband or not, you are liable on the loan. Your only option is for him to sell the house or refinance the house. This should have been covered by your marital settlement agreement or divorce judgment.
