Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
Lying landlords
My husband and I rented a house from a couple where we lived with our three children during the winter months. ALthough repeatedly promised by our landlords, our washer and dryer hook-ups were never repaired and we never had heat due to the landlords previously rewiring the house to run heat only to their attic to heat their marijuana plants. The landlords also came into our home without our consent while we were at work, on a few seperate occasions. We moved our of the home on February 6th, by mutual agreement between both parties. And although we left the house the way it was when we moved in, we allowed them to keep the security deposit just to be done with them. They have now filed a bogus lawsuit against us. They're the ones that did not follow appropriate laws. Is there anything legally we can due this late after moving from their home?

Re: Lying landlords
You need to defend the lawsuit and you may have a claim for the security deposit and other recoverable damages, including attorney's fees and costs. If the case arises in South Florida, I would be happy to discuss it further with you. If not, contact an attorney in the county where the property is located that is experienced in handling landlord-tenant disputes. If you ignore the lawsuit, a default judgment will be entered in favor of the plaintiff(s), even if the lawsuit is "bogus". Good luck.
