how does one get out of a cosigning of another person's mortgage?

The only way to get released is to have the lender

sign a release. The lender is only required to send

one in the event you fully pay it off.

Contact the mortgagee (ther lender) to learn whether it will agree to discharge you from the mortgage note. Perhaps the lender will agree to have the other signator sign a new promissory note, but it may place certain conditions like getting an additional co-signor to replace you. Ultimately, only the lender, who holds the mortgage note, can release you from that liability. Good luck and seek the advice of counsel.
