Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

My mother-in-law is giving us money to put towards a down payment on a house. The money is coming out of a joint account that both she and my wife are on. My mother-in-law is concerned that should she incur major medical expenses in the future that we (myself & my wife) could be responsible for payment of those expenses due to the fact that the money given to us could have been used to cover them.
