Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

I never moved into a condo because the home owners association approval was taking too long and I didn't trust the landlord after he would not return my calls. I told him that we were no longer interested in the property while the hoa was still processing our applications. This should make the lease invalid since we can only live there if approved. He is refusing to return my security deposit and says that he is able to keep all of it since we backed out. Am I entitiled to get it back?

The answer lies entirely in the lease (or other contract) you signed with the landlord. No one here can see your lease.
