Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Personal Belongings of Previous Home Owner

I purchased a home about a year ago. The previous owner called right after the closing and said that he had to leave a piece--name removed--furniture in the garage but would pick it up in several weeks. It's never been picked up. I do understand the appropriate procedure, such as notifying the owner with xx day window, etc, from the past questions in this database, but the problem in my case is that I don't have his contact information. My realtor moved out and I don't have her new contact information. Their realtor also seems to have left the business. I don't know where the previous owner was relocated - all I know is somewhere in South--name removed--Central Florida. The question is, how much effort should I make to try to find the owner? And under what condition, do I have a right to dispose the furniture without notifying the owner? The furniture is not valuable, but I heard it is his grandfather's.

Re: Personal Belongings of Previous Home Owner

Holding it for 1 year is beyond the call of duty. Do with it what you wish.
