Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Protecting Assets

I have purchased a rental property. I want to know how to protect my personal assets-current home and financial assets if someone tries to sue me.

What steps should I take?

Re: Protecting Assets

It is now important to set up an asset protection plan. In your case, this would include re-titling the property into the name of a limited liability corporation or "s" corporation, depending on your tax situation. In addition, it would be smart for you to adopt an overall asset protection plan to minimize your liability/exposure to lawsuits. If you want to pursue this, I would suggest that you call me at my office or e-mail me so that I could suggest an appropriate way to do this after reviewing your individual circumstances. I look forward to hearing from you because the liability of owning rental property has been a source of large, extensive personal liability.
