I handed over a $2300 deposit, for first month and security, to a realtor for a rental and they did not have a lease for me to sign. Within 24 hours I decided I did not want to rent and never signed a lease. The realtor claims they can keep one months rent and not return the entire amount. Prior to this I had given a $40.00 deposit and signed the only agreement in this process for an offer that was not agreed upon by the owner. Do they have a right to keep this money even when a lease was never signed?
