The charge depends on the value of the land, how much paperwork is involved, if there are "missing" documents, if the sisters are fighting till the death, or cooperative. This is an hourly basis sort of suit, because there are so many unknown factors. The land may not be easily divisible "in kind" and may have to be sold, so there will be surveys, brokers and appraisers involved. Each sister will likely have her own attorney. You need a real estate attorney who can walk this transaction through step by step, or better yet, collect all the relevant data and sit down and have meaningful negotiations with the other lawyer, instead of waiting for a judge to cut the property down the middle, which could take a year or more and leave both parties unhappy. You can contact me directly for a more in depth discussion of fees.
