Removing a Lien

We had a lien put on our rental property because the renter hired a pest control company but did not pay. The lease says the renter is responsible for their own pest control. Is it legal for the Pest control company to put the lien on our property without a contract from us? They put the lien on for $400 dollars and it said for Pest control services and collection cost. Do we really owe this money? Is this something that we can file some paperwork to get it removed?

You may file a notice of contest of lien. The lien then becomes invalid unless the pest control company sues you. You need to speak with a real estate lawyer, though, because there are time limits within which you are allowed to contest the lien.

I hope you didn't give back that security deposit.
