Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

rental agreement in Florida Keys

We signed a rental agreement back in February with a rental company for a 5 bedroom house. My Parents, sister and family, brother and family all purchased tickets to Miami. Two nights ago the rental agency told us that the owner decided to rent the house to someone else and now we are left in the cold. Is there a statute in the law prohibiting this kind of action or are we just out of luck?

Re: rental agreement in Florida Keys

Initially, it depends on the rental agreement and the provisions therein.

You would have to sue for any monies you lost under a theory of breach of the rental agreement. You should look to see if there is an attorney's fee clause in the agreement.

If you wish to discuss this further, feel free to e-mail me your telephone number.

There is no law prohibiting this however, they would be responsible for your monetary damages due to breach of contract.
