Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
Can my roommate sue me if I break my lease?
I want to move out from my apartment, and my roommate is threatening to sue me for the rest of the rent because he does not want to move. My apartment complex never made me renew my lease which expired about 1 year ago, but my roommate does have a lease, which he is the only person on it. The complex agreed to let us leave with only lossing our deposit. His aunt is a lawyer, and I want to know if he is bluffing or can he sue me for the rent?

Who has your deposit? If you have no current lease
If you have no lease you might be a month to month tenant and could be liable for a portion of each months rent,You may move out provided proper notice pursuant to Fl. Statue 86 is given. Any one can sue you, I would have to know all of the particulars to know if they would be successful.
