security deposits are for?

i want to know if it is legal to deduct monies from the security deposit to clean carpets, that werent cleaned before we moved in. Is it the tenants responsibility to clean the carpets before moving out?

what is the purpose of the security deposit.

Security deposit is to pay for damages beyond

normal wear and tear. What that is depends

upon the judge. Normally, cleaning carpets is

not an expense to be deducted from security deposit.

However, I was involved in one case where the judge

did find the tenants caused carpet damage in

excess of normal wear and tear.
