Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida
Security deposits
Last week I moved from my old apartment and my old landlord is saying that he is going to deduct a fee for painting the walls and cleaning the carpets from my $1000 deposit. I had previously offered to clean the carpets AND paint the walls but he never had a staight answer, most likely because he wanted to charge me for it. Does he have the right to charge me for something he has to do anyway? I have never been charged at any of the 5 apartments I have lived at in the past for cleaning the carpets and painting the walls, usually they do that reguardless. Please help.
