Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Squatter's Rights

I have a friend who brought a man home she had met at a bar. It has been one month and he refuses to leave. She has called the police, but they told her they cannot make him leave because he says he ''lives'' there. He has also been getting mail at this address. My friend rents and this man's name is not on the lease. She is frantic as to how to get this man out of her house. She says he sits around all day drinking and pretty much controlling her home. Please help.

Re: Squatter's Rights

She needs to file an eviction action and obtain a final judgment of possession and writ of possession upon which the sheriff or other appropriate authority can act to forcibly remove his property (and him) from the premises. She should also continue to call the police if she in any way fears for her safety. She needs to hire a lawyer. Good luck.
