Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Tenant Rights During Condo Conversion

A large group of us are in apartments that are about to be sold as

condos. We were supposed to have the option to buy, but they are

coming up with creative ways to force people out. I have been told

that legally, when our leases expire, we have the right to remain in

the apartment for one year afterward. Is this true? Does there have

to be some procedure to obtain this right, like sending a certified

letter, etc.? I've been told this is the procedure. Can you confirm,

elaborate, etc.? Thanks. As a single mother, having a few weeks

notice to move out is extremely challenging, to put it mildly. Any

information you could provide me with would be greatly

appreciated.

Re: Tenant Rights During Condo Conversion

You have a right of first refusal and a right to extend the lease. You should be speaking with your attorney.
