How do you handle a tenants security deposit upon their death.

This is not my area of the law, but I believe that if the security deposit was returnable to the decedent, then it is an asset of the estate of the decedent. Find out whether an estate has been opened, and, if so, who the Personal Representative ("PR") of the estate may be. Contact that person and advise them that you have money that belonged to the decedent. The PR will get a court order directing you to make payment to the appropriate party.
