If I was promised by the landlord a certain move date and 72 hours before that date I called to find out that the previous tennants have not handed in their keys yet (5 days late in doing so). No work can be done until they have. I have utilities scheduled, moving truck and new furniture set for that specific date. The Managment says that I cannot move in - need to move ahead a week. What can I do? What is my recourse if any with the Leasing / Managment Office?

FACTS: Promised by the landlord a "date certain" to move-in; 72 hours before notified that previous tenants had not handed in keys; No pre-occupancy work could be done until keys in; utilities scheduled, moving truck and furniture set for specific date. Managment says cannot move in - need to move back a week.
Q. What can I do? What is my recourse, if any, with the Leasing/Managment Office?
A. Probably very little unless you had the move-in date GUARANTEED IN WRITING from the Mgt. Co. Ask for a free rental/discount period to make up for your losses, if any. Most Mgt. Cos. will work with you.
