Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Termination of Lease

What can I do about a collection that an apartment management company that has placed against me? The lease was for a year, I had to leave the community after 5 months and go back to NY, where we have family, due to having no employment and the illness of my father-in-law. I had given them oral notice of almost 30 days and was told there would be no problem due to the fact that I did not have a job to support the rent. As it was, I had to live with my brother-in-law for over a month to save enough money to rent another place. We have since moved back to Florida and have rented another apartment with no problem. We have since found out that this collection was placed but not for several months after the fact. I would appreciate any help.
