Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

thrown away property

I moved out of a house I was staying in and forgot to return a key and a garage door opener that was in my possession. Time passed and I did not here from the owner of the house's son, with whome I was residing, so I figured it unimportant and threw the key and garage door opener away. Today I came home to find a message on my answering machine from him saying that if the items are not returned by 10/5/03, he will report it to the police as missing. What should I do or worry about, if anything? Does he have any grounds to press charges?

No, he does not. Advise them that they are lost.
