Time-share abandonment
I own a time-share in Florida. The original seller will not take it back unless through collection. I do not want to adversely effect my credit, yet I find it foolish to continue to pay maintenance and taxes on a property I do not really own nor wish to continue to visit. The time-share is free and clear, paid in full, maintenance paid in full for the 2005 year. How can I relinquish this property without it costing me more?

Unless your initial contract prohibits you, try selling your share of the time share, contact a realtor or advertise....or just give it to a friend or family member.

I have seen advertisements for any number of firms that purchase timeshares. I would suggest that you do some research and attempt to sell the property and get some of your money out.

Just a bit more info....there is a Century 21 division that specializes in timeshare resales. If you place the term in Google you will get over 500,000 sites. Check out the first several pages and you should be able to find a legitimate site or speak with a realtor in the area in which the timeshare is located and you may be able to list it with them. There is usually a buyer for everything. You have already paid for this year, so you have lots of time to market the unit. Frankly, I am surprised that the Seller will not take back the unit.
