unlawful rental increase
I was wondering for Pinellas county Fl what the annual rental increase would be for a triplex. The triplex was taken over by a new landlord and she is going to raise the rent by $185. By law can she do this? My lease agreement for the year 2001 is $415 and an option for 2nd year is $420 a month. She now wants to raise it to $595 a month for 2002.I do not think this is acceptable in the community that we live in. She will raise that rent and not give us anything new like paying water or more parking. please let me know your opinion. Thanks for your time

The new landlord is obligated to abide by the lease you signed with the old landlord, including any options.
You should schedule a formal consultation with a lawyer. A good means of obtaining an attorney referral is by contacting your State's bar association or your local county bar association. They probably have a web site and charge a nominal fee for the referral. Most attorneys either provide a free initial consultation, or charge a nominal fee.

The landlord is obliged to honor the existing lease agreement. The advice given in the prior reply should be followed.
