Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Florida
harassment
a manager, at the restaurant i work at, revealed some personal facts about my love life and sexual preferences to my mother who was a paying customer at the restaurant i work at.... she was only there to eat lunch, when this manager approched her to spitefully tell her all about my life... i have gone thru the chain of commands with my company and they are non responsive and do not plan to take action against this manager... i think the whole incident is unprofessional and humiliating...i also wanted to note that she was on the clock working when this happened...what can i do?

Re: harassment
I agree with you that the managers action in this matter was unprofessional and humiliating. I am less sure that it was illegal. If your manager is making your love life and sexual preference a topic of conversation on a regular or recurring basis then you may have a valid claim of harrassment. In that case you may want to talk to an employment attorney or the EEOC. If it happened only once and never again it is unlikely you can do anything other than what you have done, that is complain "thru the chain of command." It is possible that if the manager has quit talking about this then your complaints to supervisors have had an effect even though it looks to you as if no action has been taken. As has often said, while discrimination and harassment is illegal there is no law against simply being a jerk. Good luck and hope things are better for you at work.
