Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Florida

Sexual Harrassment by Customer

I went to work for a company in March. After about a week I went to my supervisor to report one of their customers making a comment about ''having me on my knees'' in front of him while I was kneeling down to retrieve something. My supervisor told me that I needed to deal with it because this man worked for one of their biggest customers. He said that he thought they lost the woman who worked there before me for the same reason. About a week later another customer overheard me giving directions and made the comment that he would like to ''go down on (name of city) I reported this also and was told to deal with it or walk away when they came in, the other employee was in the room when I was told th. This has happened numerous times, most recently I almost bumped into a customer who was standing behind me. I apologized and he remarked ''just be glad that you weren't bent over. I clocked out and left for a break because I was furious. Later that day another employee took this to the owner of the company. His resolution was that we will not feed the customers for a week, we generally cook breakfast for customers. No solution that addresses the problem. I do not believe they have a sexual harrassment policy, I have not seen one.

Re: Sexual Harrassment by Customer

If the company has 15 employees or more, it is covered under state and federal sexual harassment law. It is important that you document when, where and to whom you complained to about these incidents. Go to eeoc.gov for further information on sex harassment and how to file a charge.
