Legal Question in Tax Law in Florida

In about 2000 I sold a house in Iowa which I inherited from my father. I have not been a resident of Iowa since 1955. I put a lot of money into the house and sold it at a loss, a big loss. After several years Iowa has started dunning me for "Delinquent Income Tax." When I did not respond they threaten to place a levy on my Florida bank accounts, garnish my wages (I'm long retired) and/or place a tax lien on my property (in Florida.) I've been a resident of Florida since 1998 and before that a resident of Virginia. I'm retired Navy and Merchant Marine. I own nothing in Iowa and haven't even visited there for years.

I don't know if this is your situation, but in the past 5 years there has been a scam running where current Florida residents are being 'sought out' by States they used to live in claiming that back income taxes are owed. I dealt with one of those companies, and it was a scam.

So, you should be very weary of the claim.
