Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

can florida suspend my license for a court case from 4+ years ago?.. heres the details, in oct. of 2003 i got charged and the outcome in 2005 was probation, in 2006 i was charged with violation of probation, and took a sentence of 6months county jail time, and served my time, i was under the impression that i would be released free and clear and owing nothing, but in dec. 2009 my license was suspended for not paying fines of 2600+ dollars.. i really need to know is this right, can they do this? is it legal? is there anything i can do to fight this?

Yes, Florida law provides that you're license can be suspended for failure to pay fines. Unless your sentence or plea agreement did not include a fine or fines, there is nothing you can do to fight this. There is also nothing the court can do to help you since you're jail time is complete and the fines are a civil judgment, the court no longer has jurisdiction to amend your sentence.
