Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida
Hi,
I received a ticket for running a STOP sign in Hillsborough County FL on Sept.30th. The next day, I went to the courthouse to schedule my court date (as I am planning to appeal the ticket). They gave me a court date of Dec.28th. I was wondering in Hillsborough county FL, what is the greatest length of time legally acceptable that can pass between the date your citation was issued and the date you are scheduled to show up in court? If you could please show me/link me to the exact law, this would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much

Florida law states that a civil citation must be heard within 6 months from the date of issuance, unless the recipient causes the case to be delayed.
There is a speedy trial period of 180 days, so long as you don't waive that right. So if you miss your court date for example you waive that 180 day period. You also say you are going to "appeal" the ticket. You can't appeal until you've had the trial. I suggest you contact an attorney. I practice in Hillsborough county if you wish to give me a call at my website below.
