who pays what

help,I was a car accident,it was the other drivers fault,i'm new in florida and do not yet have car insurance.I plan to get insurance today,will my rates go up if I was not at fault? who pays for the damages

If you still have insurance in force from the state you lived in previously you may still be covered (several factors will help determine this).

If you were not at fault, your rates should not be effected. However, if you are currently without coverage this can effect your rates.

As for damages, regardless of coverage, the at fault party is responsible for the damage or portion of the damage they cause. The lack of insurance does not impact liability. Now, you may be issued a ticket for not having proper insurance, but that will not be an issue for the liability determination.

Hopefully, no one was injured in the accident. If you were injured and you do not have PIP coverage you could be facing some out of pocket medical expenses at least initially.
